Hello, hi, how are you? Welcome to my website! My name is Rebecca (more commonly known as Becca). I took the leap of faith into freelance writing at the beginning of 2020 and it was the best decision I ever made – good timing too, thanks a lot, ‘Rona. From then on, my business has grown and I could not be more grateful for the incredible clients I have had the pleasure of working with.
However, I like to keep things friendly, so enough of the business side of things: who am I?
Well, as I said, my name is Becca. I have a passion for writing and words themselves give my life meaning; they are essential to our communication, they help to express our emotions, they put our souls on paper. Words allow us to open up to people in the simplest, yet most intelligent ways.
That being said: where did this love of writing come from? In all honesty, I’m not entirely sure. When I was little, I wasn’t the most academic child, therefore I had no passion to read or write particularly. It wasn’t until year 6 at primary school (I believe this is the equivalent to 5th Grade in the States – but don’t quote me!) that one of the librarians handed me The Secret Life of Sally Tomato by Jean Ure and I was hooked. From then on, I would potter off to my local library with my Mum or Grandma to collect four new books each time (this was the maximum amount I was allowed to take out on my under 16 library card – how tragic).
After exhausting the library’s collection of pre-teen/teen fiction, I moved onto bigger things. I remember reading The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank and being completely transfixed by how she wrote her diary (or ‘Kitty’) and how a girl almost my age was able to communicate so articulately. From then on, I began to write.
Writing has always comforted me in ways nothing else has, which leads me on to my next point.
In 2018, I got married to an absolutely extraordinary man called Daniel. He taught me a lot about living, instead of just ‘surviving.’ Not a day would go by where we didn’t do something out of the ordinary and he is the person I have to thank for the decisions I’ve made since then. In September 2018, Dan passed away. Despite taking with him a bit of my heart, he left a bit of his with me. This piece is my driving force every single day and is the reason why running my own writing business went from being just a dream, to becoming a reality.
At the end of 2018, I went back to university and finished my English Language and Communications degree – just to prove to myself that I could do it. Through the mine fields of analysis, I finally finished and was out in the big wide world yet again. I found new passions and hobbies, including promoting equality, mental health awareness, philosophy, history and sustainability. But along with all these things, I found myself again. Granted, it took 3 jobs, lots of tears and the occasional midnight walk in the rain; but I got there.
Since 2018, I have grown so much as a person. I have so many people to thank for that development due to their love, commitment and loyalty and for that I will be forever grateful.
Which brings us back to the present day. There is so much I could waffle on about here, but I won’t. Quite frankly, I am impressed if you made it this far! All I will say now is welcome to my business website. If you are looking for a writer, drop me an Email and we can have a chat. Alternatively, if you’d like more of an insight into my corner of the world, head over to my blog here.
Thank you for reading, I am so pleased you came.
